Launched in January 2011, Poetry 247 is a “one-stop shop” for anyone looking for a quality spoken word poetry experience. Visitors of the website have the option to follow some of the best spoken word poets in the country. Visitors also have the option to find information on the best spoken word events in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia.

Poetry247 gives fans easy access to the updated performance schedule of their favorite poets. Visitors of the website are able to find updated information concerning a specific poet or a specific poetry event within three clicks or less.

We have a Twitter page and Facebook page set up so that information can be released instantly. Since most audience members have a facebook or twitter account, having a page on those social media services will allow for constant feedback on the events and performances. Both social media sites will also allow information to reach spoken word fans instantly, especially Twitter.

What Makes Us Different?

There are currently several open mic calendars online for people who support poetry. Poetry247 will be different for two reasons. We screen our poets and venues. (Our "Suggested" events appear in RED.) We will also update our information on a regular basis. We will update each poet’s profile page at least once a month. We will update the venue pages at least every three months.

Two Years

We’ve chosen to follow each poet and open mic for two years. We want to follow the poets long enough for people across the country (and globe) to experience one of their shows. We want to increase each poet’s fanbase and album/book sells. We also want to be sure we’re spotlighting some of the fresh faces in spoken word as well as some of the more experienced poets. Therefore, each year we will feature five new poets on the website. We will never follow more than ten poets at a time. We will add five poets each year and discontinue following each poet after their respective two year period. For example, our first set of poets will be featured January 2011 until January 2013. Our second set will be featured January 2012 until January 2014.
